Use of Triman logo in France - mandatory

29-03-2021 - In order to harmonise the separate collection systems within France, the French Decree No. 2014-1577 has made it mandatory from 1 January 2015 to print the Triman Logo on recyclable products and packaging sold to consumers in France. Products with the Triman Logo on them are meant to be collected in separate waste streams. The Triman logo is mandatory to use on products affected by an EPR system, which are:

  • Furniture and furnishings
  • Graphic papers
  • Tyres
  • Clothing textiles
  • Household linens
  • Shoes
  • Household packaging
  • Electrical and electronic equipment
  • Batteries and accumulators
  • Products that generate specific non-point waste

The products in bold are relevant for Modint members. The Triman logo must be placed directly on the product, or on the product packaging. Until January 2022, the logo can also be displayed on the website, either on the product page or on a separate page informing consumers about recyclability of products and packaging.

From January 2022, there will be a reinforcement of the requirements with the implementation of a sanction and also a new requirement; the Triman logo must be completed with additional information specifying the sorting methods (could be a sentence, another pictogram or something else..). An example of this sorting information is shown below, the exact rules will be specified in the forthcoming decree and Modint will give you an update when more information is available.

When the logo is not placed directly on the product but on the packaging, the logo will be related to both. So there will be no need to duplicate the logo, but the additional information specifying sorting methods (as mentioned above) will be needed for both the product and the packaging.

More information on the right way to use the logo and graphics to download can be found in the user’s handbook. It is expected that an updated version will be available later this year explaining the new rules, we will inform you when we have received it.
